Next is a local-first calendar & to-do app for Mac and iPhone. Here's how to get help and get the most out of it.
On first launch, Next asks for access to your Calendar and Reminders. Choose Allow for both — Next reads and writes your existing events and to-dos directly through your Mac or iPhone, so everything you already have (iCloud, Google, Outlook) shows up right away. There's no account to create and no separate login.
If the calendar looks empty or you declined access, re-enable Next and relaunch the app:
Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars (and Reminders).
iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars (and Reminders) — or Settings → Apps → Next.
Use the bar at the top of the window on Mac, or the + button on iPhone, and type naturally — for example, "Lunch with Sam tomorrow 1pm" or "Pay rent on the 1st every month #Finance". Next parses the date, time, repeat, and list as you type, with a live preview before you add.
Where is my data stored? On your device, in the built-in Calendar and Reminders. Next has no servers and collects nothing — see our Privacy Policy.
Do my Mac and iPhone stay in sync? Yes — Next works with the same Calendar and Reminders on both, so the accounts you've set up (iCloud, Google, Outlook) keep them in step with no extra setup. Changes travel through those services, so an event added on one device can take a few minutes to reach the other — how fast depends on the account's own sync schedule (for Google calendars, see Settings → Apps → Calendar → Fetch New Data on iPhone).
Does it work offline? Yes. The only network request is Apple Maps location lookup when you type a place into an event.
How do I change a calendar or list color? Open Settings (⌘, on Mac, or the sliders button at the top right on iPhone) and pick a color per calendar/list.
